Khandbari. Sankhuwasabha: As many as 400 households of Sabhapokhari rural municipality-1 and 2 of Sankhuwasabha have access to ‘one house, one stream’. Sabhapokhari rural municipality has so far installed taps in 400 out of 728 households under the donor-funded project.
Earlier, there was a compulsion to fill water from wells or other natural sources, but now it has become easier for the locals with the installation of taps at home. Manju Sharma of Dhupu, who spends two hours a day in water supply, is now happy to use water at home.
Similarly, Kedar Adhikari, another resident of Dhupu, recalls that earlier it used to take three hours to fetch a gallon of water, “Now water is available at home in the morning and evening, this project has changed the lifestyle of the village. Water has been supplied through pipes by constructing tanks at three sources of Dhupu. Users will have to pay Rs 50 per month. It will manage the operation and maintenance expenses.
Under the project, six schools have been connected with tanks and taps. It has also helped the students to practice cleanliness.
Sunita Rai, a local, said that after the project, the labor load of women has decreased and the attendance of children in school has also become regular. He said that the students who used to drop out of school due to water earlier reach on time.
In order to make the project sustainable, the local youth have been given technical training including pump installation and pipe repair. The estimated cost of the project is Rs 38.23 million. Preparations are underway to expand the project to other wards as well.
