Kathmandu. The net interest income of commercial banks has decreased in the last fiscal year 2081/82 BS. Net interest income of 20 commercial banks declined by an average of 1.08 per cent.
In the same period of the last fiscal year, the banks earned a net interest income of Rs 190.63 billion as compared to Rs 192.72 billion in the same period of the previous fiscal year.
Net interest income of eight commercial banks has decreased in the last fiscal year. As a result, such income of banks has decreased on an average. Due to the economic slowdown seen in the last few years, banks have been struggling to recover loans and interest. As a result, the bank’s net interest income has also seen some decline.
Global IME Bank, Nepal Investment Mega Bank, Laxmi Sunrise Bank, Himalayan Bank, NIC Asia Bank, Krishi Bikas Bank, Prabhu Bank and Standard Chartered Bank have reported a decline in net interest income. Interest income of 12 banks has increased during this period. Interest income of Nabil, Kumari Bank, Nepal Bank, Rastriya Banijya Bank, Everest Bank, Prime Commercial Bank, Siddhartha Bank, NMB Bank, Citizens, Sanima, Machhapuchhre Bank and Nepal SBI Bank has increased.
Although net interest income has decreased slightly during this period, Global IME Bank has the highest such income in the bank. Global IME Bank stood at Rs 16.71 billion as of Mid-June of the last fiscal year. The bank’s interest income has decreased by only 0.85 percent compared to the previous fiscal year. In the previous fiscal year, the bank had earned Rs 16.85 billion in interest income.
Similarly, Nabil Bank is the second highest interest earner. The bank stood at Rs 16.32 billion in the last fiscal year. The bank’s interest income has increased by 0.06 percent compared to the previous fiscal year. In the previous fiscal year, the bank’s income stood at Rs 16.31 billion.
Similarly, Standard Chartered Bank has the lowest interest income during this period. In the last fiscal year, the bank stood at Rs 4.48 billion. The bank’s interest income has decreased by 12.56 percent compared to the previous fiscal year. In the previous fiscal year, the bank had earned Rs 5.13 billion.
