Bailey Bridge constructed at a cost of Rs 35 million in Hewa Khola operational: Minister Dahal

Kathmandu. Minister for Physical Infrastructure and Transport Devendra Dahal has said that no part of Nepal can remain remote now.

He said no part of the country would be allowed to become inaccessible due to lack of access to roads and transport.

Inaugurating the Modular Bridge (Bailey Bridge) constructed at Hewa Khola of Panchthar along the Mechi Highway on Wednesday, he said that road network has been provided in 77 districts of the country. Minister Dahal said, “Even now the road has not reached any part, there is no situation that this area remains remote and will not be allowed to come.” ’

He said that the government has given priority to projects of national pride and transformation, establishing transport access with neighboring countries, other national highways, benefiting the large population and also supporting the economic development of the citizens.

Thanking India for its support in nepal’s infrastructure sector, Minister Dahal expressed the belief that the relations between the two countries would be further strengthened in the days to come.

He also thanked the Government of India through the Ambassador for sending technicians with promptness even after an accident during the installation of bailey bridge at the site.

Minister Dahal and Indian Ambassador to Nepal Nabin Srivastava jointly inaugurated the bridge.

On the occasion, Indian Ambassador Srivastava recalled that Nepal and India have age-old relations. The Government of India is happy to extend support for the welfare of Nepal and Nepalis, he added. He expressed the belief that the cooperation between Nepal and India would be further strengthened in the days to come.

He said that the Government of India is also happy to complete the work by taking education without being disappointed and discouraged by the incident that took place during the construction of the bridge.

Similarly, Secretary at the Ministry Keshav Kumar Sharma said that the government of India has received a lot of support from the locals including employees, technicians for the installation of the bridge. Sharma said that the construction of the bridge was successful due to the support received from the local levels, locals and all quarters.

Relief to the families of the deceased

Three workers were killed and 20 percent of the bridge’s material was destroyed in an accident on June 27 when the construction of the bailey bridge was in the final stage at the same place. Engineer Pramod Khatiwada said that a team of technicians from India resumed the work and completed the installation work.

A memorial pillar has also been constructed along with the bridge in honour of ruplal Chaudhary, Rajan Raya and Rakesh Rai Tharu, who lost their lives during the construction of the bridge.

On the occasion, Minister Dahal announced a compensation of Rs 100,000 each to the families of the workers who lost their lives in the incident.
