Washington. The White House on Tuesday launched an official TikTok account for Us President Donald Trump’s social networking app, a month short of the deadline to find a new owner or face sanctions in the United States.
The account posted its first video of 27 seconds on Tuesday afternoon. The video clip shows Trump walking and talking to his supporters. It also includes audio of his acceptance speech at the 2016 Republican National Convention.
Within hours of the release of the first video, the account has garnered more than 57,000 followers. However, the TikTok account used for the election campaign last year has more than 15 million followers.
During his first term in office, Trump signed an executive order banning the byteDance-owned app. According to the order, ByteDance was not allowed to operate the app until it sold its US operations to an American company. But due to legal challenges, the order was not implemented.
After a second term, Trump has decided to give time to this app and has extended the deadline twice. The first time on January 20 and the second time on April 4, both times for 75 days. Then on June 19, Trump signed another executive order allowing TikTok to operate in the US for another 90 days. This deadline will be till September 17, 2025.
