Sankhuwasabha. Keeping in mind the risk of dengue, an awareness campaign has been launched against dengue with the slogan ‘Let us not allow water to freeze, destroy mosquito flowers’.
Nepal Army, Nepal Police, students, youth clubs and organisations participated in the campaign jointly organized by the Health Office and Khandbari Municipality. They cleaned the locality, felled bushes, emptied water logging vessels and distributed pamphlets to the community with information about the symptoms and prevention of dengue.
Suman Shakya, chief of the District Coordination Committee, said it was worrisome that dengue has reached the mountainous districts. According to Roshan Shrestha, public health officer at the Health Office, the infection has been confirmed in 78 people in July and August.
According to health workers, a mosquito called Aedes aegypti is active in the morning and evening to flower in clean water, so preventing water logging around the house, regular cleaning is the main preventive measure. They have requested to be more cautious during the rainy season.
