Kathmandu. It has been more than a decade and a half since Mingma Gyabu Sherpa started climbing the mountain. During this period, he has not only climbed the mountain but has also taken hundreds of Nepalis and foreigners to the top of the mountain. Hundreds of people stranded in the mountains have been rescued. Not only this, he has cleaned the mountains many times to save the mountains from climate change.

But of late, he has seen that the manpower working in the mountains is decreasing. They have felt the impact of climate change as the mountains melt. They have also faced problems seen during the rescue of the climbers stranded in the mountains. Sherpa, who is active in resolving the problems caused by the neglect of the mountains, the main base of Nepal’s tourism, has expressed his desire to work at the leadership level at this time.

Mingma, who had earlier served as a working committee member of The Nepal Mountaineering Association, is contesting for the post of first vice-president in the working committee of the association scheduled to be held on August 15. Sherpa says he wants to come to the leadership with a plan to organize mountain climbing, produce skilled human resources and make rescue effective. “There is no tradition of investing for mountain climbers and till a decade ago, up to 60 people were produced annually, but now it has come down to zero,” he said, adding, “If we do not pay attention to it in time, our identity can be erased.” ”

Technology is now being used at an advanced level. Technology is also being used for mountain climbing, rescue and garbage collection. In such a situation, he understands that the problem related to climbing has to be addressed in a new way. “There is still a big problem in rescue, not only mountaineering, we are not ready for rescue at the time of mountain climbing,” he said, adding, “The association needs to prepare human resources for rescue.” This will go a long way in reducing the risk. ”

Born on May 16, 1989 in Taplejung, Sherpa is known by many as Mingma David Sherpa. He has worked a world record by climbing mountains. He holds the world record for the youngest person to climb all 14 mountains above 8,000 meters.

On January 16, 2021, 10 Nepali climbers, including him, held each other’s hands and set a new record by reaching the summit of Mount Ketu in Pakistan by singing the national anthem. It was the first time in the 67-year history of Mount Ketu that they had climbed in the winter season. Earlier, there were 48 unsuccessful attempts to climb K2 in Winter.

Although Mingma belongs to the Sherpa community, he is the first person in the village to climb the mountain. Born in Maktanglung rural municipality, he spent his childhood there. Most of the villagers were British lahuras, while those with money went to America, Canada and Europe. Mingma’s family depended on agriculture.

In 2009, Mingma got a job as a kitchen helper at the base camp at an altitude of 4,800 meters in Manaslu. After seeing the climbers at the base camp, he felt that I would also climb the mountain at the same time.

After returning to Kathmandu, he spent Rs 35,000 on carrying a load and underwent basic training on rescue and preliminary. He then came in contact with Dorje Khatri of Taplejung. Khatri has climbed Mt Everest three times. “I called him and asked him to get a job, he took me as an assistant guide in 2010,” Mingma said, recalling the past, “In 2010, 2011 and 2012, I climbed Mt Everest with him from China.” ”
