7.5-magnitude earthquake hits Antarctica

The National Tsunami Warning Center has also confirmed that there is no possibility of a tsunami. Chile’s National Disaster Response Service (Senapred) described the quake as “moderate intensity” and issued a “warning warning” for the Antarctic region.

According to a source in Chile’s Interior Ministry, the southernmost inhabited area on the South American continent is “not a threat to the Magalence region”.

Senapred said it was necessary to evacuate “beach areas” and “rocky shores” in the national Antarctic region in case of precaution.
