Sankhuwasabha. The road along the Koshi Highway has been obstructed for the past three days due to a massive landslide at Hungung section of Bhotkhola. The 115-km stretch connecting Khandbari to Kimathanka border point has come to a complete halt due to the landslide on Thursday.

According to Ram Bahadur Gurung, chief of the North-South Koshi Road Project, a massive landslide involving stones, mud and bushes has occurred in about 300 meters of the road area. “There is no way to use the machine as the road is under construction. The work has become more challenging due to the hilly terrain and continuous rain,” he said.

The road blockade has affected the movement of daily necessities, fuel and construction materials. Commuters have also been facing problems due to the closure of the highway for the last three days.

According to Gurung, landslides occur every year in the area during the rainy season, but it has not been decided when the road will be opened as the landslide this time is very big. Although efforts are being made to remove the landslide, there is no possibility of the highway being operated immediately.
