Kathmandu. Kathmandu: The national priority road corridor and other infrastructure projects under construction under the management of The Nepal Army have achieved progress as per the target in the fiscal year 2081/82 BS.
According to the Ministry of Defence, 100 percent progress has been achieved in the koshi corridor, Karnali corridor, Mahakali corridor, Benighat-Arughat-Larkebhanjyang road project as per the annual target. Spokesperson at the Ministry, Manoj Kumar Acharya, said that the results of the National Defence University, National Chure-Tarai Madhes Conservation and Bunker-to-Barrack programme have also been achieved accordingly.
Among the national pride projects, the kathmandu-Tarai-Madhes fast track project, the progress of the project has been limited to 67.5 percent in the current fiscal year. According to the Ministry, there are problems related to land acquisition in package no. 11, which is up to 6.5 km from the departure point of the fast track, and the annual target of the project could not be achieved on the physical side of the project due to lack of decision regarding the departure point and vehicular movement.
Similarly, 10.51 kilometers of Khandbari-Kimathanka (Chamtang-Ghonghappa) road project under Koshi corridor, 2.5 kilometers of Karnali corridor (Ghatparichaur-Badrigaon-Bhukkakhola) road project and 11 kilometers of Lanlibagar-Dullikuna road have been opened.
Similarly, the construction of 200 meters long road at Bokche Gouda and Bhir Gauda, 400-400 meter long road at Yangchu Bhir and Bailey Bridge at Chuwakhola of Kharpunath has been completed. Similarly, a new track of 2.5 kilometers has been constructed in benighat-Arughat-Larkebhanjyang road project. According to the Ministry, the widening of the road has also been completed as per the target.
A total of 17.5 kilometres of track has been completed under the Darchula-Tinker road project under the Mahakali Corridor by last fiscal year. In the last fiscal year, the government had set an annual target of constructing 1.8 kilometers of new track and upgrading 1.2 kilometers of track on the road. Similarly, a new track of 2.03 kilometers has been constructed on the Darchula-Tinker road section.
Kathmandu: A total of 108 ranks of The Nepal Army involved in the construction of road infrastructure in geographically difficult areas have attained martyrdom. Similarly, 12 people have lost their lives in trishuli-Somdang road project, seven in Katari-Olakhdhunga, 18 in Beni-Jomsom, 62 in Karnali Highway (Surkhet-Jumla), one in Nagma-Gamgadhi, three in Besisahar-Chame and one in Jajarkot-Dolpa. A total of 24 civilians have lost their lives during the construction of these road projects.
At present, four soldiers have lost their lives in the Karnali Corridor and 28 non-army personnel in various road projects under construction. A total of 73 structures have been constructed in the last fiscal year under the bunker to barracks programme. According to the Army, 1,995 structures are yet to be constructed under the programme.
Similarly, 100 percent success has been achieved in the construction of strategically important National Defense University in the last fiscal year. The overall physical progress of the project is 74.04 percent and the financial progress is 74.02 percent.
The construction of physical infrastructure, law and curriculum of the university being constructed at Perungedanda of Banepa Municipality of Kavrepalanchowk has reached the final stage.
The Nepal Army has also been playing an effective role in nature conservation. According to the ministry’s annual progress report, 254,133 patrols, 37,867 ambushes and 9,224 emergency raids were carried out in the fiscal year. So far, 116 soldiers have lost their lives in the course of nature conservation.
arrears above settlement target
In the fiscal year 2081/82 BS, the Ministry of Defence had outstanding arrears of Rs 3.45 billion, of which 61.39 per cent was cleared, according to the Ministry. That year, a target was set to clear 60 percent of the arrears.
