Nawalpur. Nawalparasi (Bardaghat-Susta East) has distributed 16 deep borewells for irrigation in a year. According to the Ground Water Irrigation Project Office, Bharatpur, the deep boring distributed in the last fiscal year 2081/82 has provided irrigation facility to about 425 hectares of land in the district.
Project Chief Engineer Bishwabandhu KC said that a deep borewell would provide irrigation facility to about 25 to 30 hectares of land. “We have done deep boring work in Nawalparasi (Bardaghat-Susta East) since last year alone,” he said, adding, “Around 150 farmers have benefited from one deep boring.” Five deep borewells have been distributed in Gaindakot Municipality, four in Binayi Triveni Rural Municipality, three in Madhyabindu Municipality, three in Kawasoti Municipality and one in Devchuli Municipality.
Project chief KC said that the deep boring would be distributed on priority basis after conducting a feasibility study after receiving the demand from the farmers. “To demand deep boring, we have to come up with 35 bighas of land titles and recommendations of the ward,” he said. He said that the demand for deep boring from the farmers is high but due to the limitation of resources, it is not possible to provide it to everyone.
Kc said that 20 deep borings have been demanded from five municipalities of Nawalpur for the current fiscal year. “Last year, we were able to distribute deep borewells as per the demand of the farmers, but this year the budget has come down less,” he said, adding, “A total of 12 borewells have been approved for the three districts of Nawalpur, Chitwan and Makawanpur in our programme.” He said that even if it is distributed proportionately, it is not possible to provide more than four deep boring in a district.
Stating that Rs 2.1 million would be spent for the construction of each bearing, he said there should be 3 per cent public participation. “The public participation of the farmers can be done in both shramdaan and cash,” he said, adding, “So far, the participation of farmers has been done through shramdaan.” Stating that water is coming from a depth of about 100 meters in Gaindakot, Kawasoti and Vinayi Triveni of Nawalpur, he said that borewells of more than 110 meters depth had to be buried in Madhyabindu and Devchuli.
“We do not distribute borewells in areas where there are canals, wells and rivulet water while identifying the need,” he said. KC said they would not be able to hold the programme even where there is no possibility of water coming from the boring.
Stating that all parts of Hupsekot Rural Municipality, Boudikali Rural Municipality and Bullingtar Rural Municipality of the district are located in the hilly region, he said that they do not have any program in those municipalities.
