PM Oli briefs Parliament about China visit

Kathmandu. Kathmandu: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has informed the Parliament about his upcoming visit to China. Oli informed about the visit at a meeting of the House of Representatives today.

At the friendly invitation of Chinese President Xi Jinping, he led the Nepali delegation to China from September 14 to 18. Oli said the main objective of the five-day visit is to participate in the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SHA) Summit to be held in Tianjin city of China. He said the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) was established in 2001 and has now evolved into one of the largest regional organisations in the world.

China, Russia, India, Pakistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Iran, and Belarus are its full members, while Afghanistan and Mongolia are observer states. Along with Nepal, Turkey, Sri Lanka, Azerbaijan, Armenia, Cambodia, Egypt, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Maldives, Myanmar, Bahrain and the United Arab Emirates are dialogue partners of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization.

Nepal has been a dialogue partner of the organization since 2016.

In today’s meeting, Pm Oli said That Nepal’s effort is to increase the level of Nepal’s participation in the organization, to clearly highlight Nepal’s vision and priorities in contemporary regional and international affairs and to promote Nepal’s interests by achieving maximum benefits through it.

During the visit, I am scheduled to have a bilateral meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping. He will meet Chinese Vice President Han Chang in Beijing. Oli said he would attend separate dinners to be hosted by the Chinese President and Vice President. Oli is scheduled to attend and address the SCO+ Summit to be held in Tianjin on September 15 during his visit to China.

On the sidelines of the summit, he is scheduled to hold bilateral meetings with heads of state and government of various friendly countries. Bilateral and other priorities between Nepal and these countries will be discussed during the meetings.

So far, President Vladimir Putin of the Russian Federation, President of the Republic of Maldives Dr. Mohammad Mizju, Prime Minister of The Kingdom of Cambodia. Somdek Moha Borvor Tipahade Hun Mahanet, Prime Minister of Lao People’s Democratic Republic Sonesai Sipandon and Prime Minister of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam Mr. Pham Min Ching are scheduled to meet separately.

The Nepali delegation, along with world leaders, will participate in the 80th anniversary celebration of the Victory of the Chinese People’s War on World War against Fascism and the Chinese People’s War of Resistance against Japanese Encroachment to be organized by the Chinese government in Beijing on September 15. According to the Chinese government, more than 50 countries will participate in these programs.

“I am confident that my participation in the SCO Summit will enhance the country’s image and prestige by presenting Nepal’s concepts and priorities on various contemporary issues at the international forum,” oli said.

Pm Oli’s wife Radhika Shakya, former Deputy Prime Minister and Member of The House of Representatives Purna Bahadur Khadka, Minister for Education, Science and Technology Raghuji Panta, Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation Badri Prasad Pandey, former Minister and Prime Minister’s Economic and Development Advisor Dr. Dipu Moni are also part of the delegation. Yubaraj Khatiwada, former minister and member of the House of Representatives Chhabilal Bishwakarma and high-ranking officials of the Government of Nepal will participate in the meeting.
