Washington. Us President Donald Trump, during a phone call with Prime Minister Narendra Modi on June 17, had requested him to support him for the Nobel Peace Prize on the grounds of ending India-Pakistan hostilities.

However, Prime Minister Modi rejected the request and dismissed Trump’s claim. According to India’s official position, the ceasefire between India and Pakistan was decided by the direct consent of both the countries without the involvement of the UNITED States. The New York Times report says this.

According to the report, Modi’s decision not to cooperate with Trump’s Nobel Prize search has played an important role in spoiling India-US relations.

In a phone call, Trump said he was proud to halt military escalation and claimed that Pakistan was nominating him for the Nobel Prize. Modi, however, made it clear that the US had no role in the current ceasefire.

Weeks after the phone call, the US imposed a 25 per cent reciprocal customs duty on India and announced an additional 25 per cent penalty for buying oil from Russia at a discount. With this, a total of 50 percent customs duty was imposed on India.

The report, prepared by Mujeeb Mashal, Tyler Pager and Anuprita Das in the New York Times, is based on confidential interviews with more than a dozen people in Washington and New Delhi. According to the report, there has been no communication between Modi and Trump since the June 17 phone call.

Us President Donald Trump is also likely to skip the Quad summit in India later this year.

In the same phone call, Prime Minister Modi declined Trump’s invitation to visit Washington after the G-7 summit in Canada. The denial comes due to fears that Trump might try to forcibly shake hands with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Pakistan Army chief Aseem Munir.

According to senior Indian officials, Trump did not show enough concern about the complexity of India-Pakistan relations. Although preparations were made to hold another dialogue to finalize a partial trade agreement later, the trust between the two leaders decreased.

Indian officials feared that even if there was an agreement, Trump would reveal whatever he wanted on the social networkIng Site Truth Social.

Frustrated by the tax talks, Trump repeatedly tried to reach out to Modi. But Modi did not respond to those efforts. A White House spokesman, however, denied trump’s contact with the report.
