Jhapa. Birtamod Municipality of Jhapa has distributed land ownership certificates to nine landless squatters. Land ownership certificates were distributed to them of Birtamod-7 amid a program organized in the municipality today.

Nirandhwaj Limbu, Amrit Bahadur Limbu, Nirmala Limbu, Harikala Magar, Masi Prakash Rai, Aitraj Limbu, Maitimaya Limbu, Gurudev Ghimire and Krishna Bahadur Thapa of Birtamod-7, who have been waiting for land ownership permits for years, have been given land ownership certificates. Birtamod Municipality Mayor Pabitra Mahatara Prasain said that the land will be distributed soon to other residents of birtamode municipality who have completed the process.

Birtamod-7 ward chair Aviral Krishna Kharel said preparations were underway to distribute parts to more than 1,200 landless squatters of the municipality.

According to him, there are 39 Dalit, 93 slum dwellers and 277 disorganized families in Birtamod-7. Chief of The Land Problem Resolution Commission, Birtamod, Bimal Pokharel, said that although the land has been distributed by maintaining a large amount of land, it cannot be sold and distributed for 10 years.
