Landslide blocks North-South Koshi highway

Sankhuwasabha. Sankhuwasabha: The north-south road leading to Bhotkhola rural municipality of Sankhuwasabha has been obstructed along the North-South Koshi Highway due to incessant rain.

Information Officer at the North-South Road Office, Engineer Naresh Jirel, said that the landslide occurred along the North-South Koshi Highway at Sammatarneta Bhir of Makalu Rural Municipality-3. Traffic services have been disrupted after a landslide swept away the road between Bhotkhola and Makal.

Information Officer at the Road Office, Jirel, said that around 500 meters of road was washed away by the floods triggered by rain at Sammatar Netabhir of Makalu-3 on the North-South Koshi Highway last night. Information Officer Jirel said that two excavators of the road office have been mobilized to remove the landslide.

It is still raining continuously in the upper region. Information Officer at the Road Office, Jirel, said that the landslide could be removed until the rain stopped. It is not yet clear how many more days it will take to clear the landslide, he said. Vehicular traffic from Bhotkhola to Khandbari has not been crossed after the landslide. Vehicles coming from Khandbari have also been stranded.

Transport services have been suspended in some wards of Makalu rural municipality and Bhotkhola rural municipality due to road blockade. Bhotkhola rural municipality has been cut off after the road was blocked. At present, the transport from district headquarters Khandbari to Bhotkhola is only plying up to Faxinda of Makalu rural municipality.
