Jhapa. A total of 487 co-operative societies under the regulatory jurisdiction of the office in Koshi province have been listed as inactive. Among them, Jhapa has the highest number of 131 cooperatives, followed by Morang (67), Sunsari (62), Ilam (47), Udayapur and Tehrathum (26 each).

Similarly, 12 cooperatives in Solukhumbu, 21 in Okhaldhunga, 17 in Khotang, 13 in Sankhuwasabha, 17 each in Bhojpur and Dhankuta, 10 in Taplejung and 21 in Panchthar are in the list of inactive. Registrar Khanal said that the list has been made public in accordance with the State Cooperative Act, 2076 and the Criteria related to operation, monitoring and audit of co-operative societies 2078 for the purpose of updating the data of cooperative societies and cancelling the registration of inactive cooperatives.

Nagendra Parajuli, section officer of the monitoring and audit section of the office, said that if the property and liabilities of the listed people are not found, then the process will be carried out by completing the process. There are 1,075 co-operative societies across the province under the regulatory jurisdiction of the Koshi State Cooperative Registrar and Training Office.

131 cooperatives inactive in Jhapa

In Jhapa district, 131 cooperative societies have been found to be inactive. The Koshi State Cooperative Registrar and Training Office has issued a notification on September 15 making public the list of inactive cooperatives. Among them are 131 cooperative societies in Jhapa, said Bhupendra Khanal, registrar at the office.

According to him, the cooperativesocieties which did not submit the details to be submitted as per Section 60 (1) of the State Government Act, 2076 BS for two consecutive years have been put on the inactive list. “A notice has been issued to submit the list to the regulatory body as per Section 60 (1) of the State Cooperative Act, 2076 BS within 35 days from the date of publication of the list,” he said. ’

Stating that a campaign has been launched to purify the cooperatives, he said, “The non-existent cooperatives will be scrapped after completing the process.” Registrar Khanal said that the property and liabilities of the co-operative societies listed in the inactive list will be searched.

He said that some cooperatives have been submitting the details to the local level to be submitted in the province.
