Potatoes and oranges sold in Myagdi worth Rs 1 billion

Myagdi. Potatoes and oranges worth Rs 1 billion were sold from here in the last fiscal year. According to the District-based Agriculture Knowledge Centre, potatoes worth Rs 600 million and oranges worth Rs 334.6 million were sold in the fiscal year 2081/82 BS.

Sanjiv Bastola TAG_OPEN_div_31, chief of the centre, said that 35,490 metric tonnes of potatoes produced on 1,820 hectares of land were sold at a minimum price of Rs 35 per kg in the last fiscal year.

According to him, potatoes TAG_OPEN_div_29 have been produced at the rate of 19.5 metric tons per hectare in 1,820 areas. According to Centre Chief Bastola, 4,781.3 metric tonnes of oranges produced in 425 hectares of land were sold at Rs 334.67 million at rs 80 per kg.

Technicians at the Krishi Gyan Kendra have been collecting data on the production of fruits, vegetables and food crops through ‘cropping’ method.

There are more than 200 orange orchards in Rakhu, Marek, Surkemela, Baranja, Bhendabari, Arman, Runma, Bim, Okharbot, Takam, Ghatan, Piple, Bhagwati, Beg, Dowa, Dosalle, Ghar, Bhurung Tatopani, Dana and Narchiang.

TAG_OPEN_div_23 Potatoes and oranges produced in the villages have started getting market after access to vehicles. Agriculture Knowledge Centre and National Agricultural Modernization Project have launched programmes related to the expansion and promotion of potato and orange cultivation in the district.

According TAG_OPEN_div_21 to Agriculture Extension Officer Ganga Lamichhane, 164 families belonging to 42 farms and groups have strengthened 370 ropanis of orchards and expanded them to 40 ropanis in the last fiscal year with the help of Rs 4.714 million from the Centre.

Three cooperatives and 27 groups have been provided with a grant of Rs 8 TAG_OPEN_div_19.76 4 million for seed, mechanization, irrigation infrastructure, packaging and transportation through the Khayan Potato Programme. This year, rs 600,000 has been allocated for the establishment and expansion of orange fruit gardens and Rs 1.98 million for strengthening.

The Potato Zone Programme in TAG_OPEN_div_17 the district has been supporting the expansion of potato cultivation in Annapurna and Raghuganga rural municipalities and Beni municipality-9 and 10. According to project agriculture officer Bikram Basyal, rs 5.38 million has been allocated for the orange zone being operated in Parbat, Baglung and Myagdi, while Rs 1.668 million has been allocated for the potato zone with raghuganga, Beni and Annapurna rural municipalities.
