Kathmandu. The main opposition CPN (Maoist Centre) and the Unified Socialist Party have demanded the resignation of Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli and Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak.
A meeting of the leaders available in Gorkha as part of the Mid-Hill Pushpalal Highway People’s Awareness Campaign has decided that Prime Minister Oli should resign immediately. “The Maoists have drawn serious attention to the suppression by the state in the campaign against corruption and protest against the social media shutdown called by the JNG generation,” it said.
“Our party strongly condemns the police repression on the peaceful protesters,” the statement reads. “The voices against corruption and protest against the social media shutdown raised by the JNG generation are just and pro-people. Therefore, our party draws the government’s serious attention to address these demands responsibly,” the statement reads.
So far, 17 people have died during the Zenji movement.
Meanwhile, the Communist Party of Nepal (Unified Socialist) has demanded the resignation of Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli and Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak. Party Spokesperson Prakash Jwala said that the party’s central secretariat meeting held today called for the resignation of Prime Minister and Home Minister.
“The government should immediately address the demands of the agitators. Open the social media,” Jwala said, adding, “The Prime Minister and the Home Minister, who killed so many people, can no longer remain in office.” The Prime Minister and the Home Minister should resign immediately!”
The party, which supported the legitimate demands by expressing solidarity with the movement, said that it was justified that the dissatisfaction and anger among the youths after the shutdown of social media has turned into a movement against corruption and misgovernance.
