Kathmandu. Internet and ViaTV services were disrupted on Tuesday after a fire broke out at the Central Business Park in Jadhani, disrupting Vianet’s main data centre.

The company has apologized for the disruption to its customer service. On September 10, at around 4:45 p.m., a fire broke out during a demonstration that damaged a data center on the fourth floor, causing a disruption of service to users across the country.

Although Vianet has backup data centers, they are not enough to suddenly lose key infrastructure.

According to Vianet, the internet was initially partially restored and the Via TV service could not be restored as the building was unsafe.

After the fire was brought under control with the help of army and police on the morning of September 10, the technical team shifted the necessary servers to a safer place and rehabilitated them.

“Thanks to the continuous efforts of our technical team, most of our customers are now back on the internet,” Vianet said.

According to the company, it aims to operate the service at full capacity by this evening and via TV will also be restored soon.
