What Jenji has raised is justified, we have to stick to the constitution somewhere: Gagan Thapa

Dear Genji friends, and the young friends who are currently sitting in the discussion on behalf of this Genji friends. Hello all of you. I want to tell you a few things. I know you’re not in a mood to listen to me much. I’m totally understanding. I am not trying to have this conversation with you now as the general secretary of the Congress. 20 years ago, when the movement of 2062/2063 ended, I was the same age as you today.

I want to request you something based on that experience. I understand your generation frustration angle. First of all, I apologize for not being able to do what I should have done to mitigate it. So please listen to me for a moment.

First of all, I am not directly involved in the murder of 19 youths on September 7, but I still apologize. It was a crime. As I say this, I feel like screaming. Because the day the decision was made to ban social media, I ran for my president. And that morning he said that the youth are very angry with us, for genuine reason. There is so much fire, don’t add fuel to the fire. Don’t do this. He did not speak at the meeting, came out and wrote it to the press. We all put pressure together, but it didn’t happen. Perhaps if only that could have been prevented, such a big incident would not have happened.

Thinking about it now, I think I should have stopped it anyway. On September 23, you announced the movement. In the evening, my daughter asked me. Baba, you support the movement, I will do it. Some of the things that I have raised in some of the movements from my place are the things that I have been raising for a long time, whether it is the matter of investigating the corruption after 2046 B.S., whether it is the matter of making institutions like the CIAA more transparent or the immediate removal of the social media band. But I was a little scared in my mind that someone would take a bribe in that moment. We knew about groups with different interests.

Your peace was full of movement. Suddenly, there was a gunshot. From wherever I was, you called the Home Minister, then called the IGP, tried to reach out to the Prime Minister. No one listened to us. I couldn’t hear it again. The first thing I wanted to do in the evening meeting was to meet the Home Minister. That’s why I remember saying that you should resign immediately and in my party meeting, I told the party president to come back from the government immediately, there is nothing else. This is a big crime and it should be investigated. Again, I couldn’t do as I was told.

On the morning of the 24th, I and the other general secretary, we were asking the president to withdraw from the government immediately. We were reaching out to other friends. We have to control it, we should apologize, we have made a mistake. No, he didn’t listen. After sitting in the house for a while, a large crowd came towards my house. Slogans were hurled at stones. I understood the anger. But I didn’t want my house to be set on fire. A moment later, a large crowd arrived. I looked up and watched it from the CCTV. About 10-15 people were wearing masks. There’s a big crowd behind it. In that large crowd, there are some people from new parties and some people from old parties that I know well. If you set it on fire, if you set it on fire, if you put it in the car. All the dangdungs were vandalized. But I was thinking that I don’t remember the exact date of August a long time ago. This was the situation after 12 Nepalis were killed in Iraq.

We were all out on the street. At that time, wherever the mob went, the mob tried to destroy all private property and public property. On that day, he walked from Marajganj to Kalimati. When they tried to stop the demolition of private property, they were beaten up inside the mob. Sometimes he used to be scolded, but I would stop him. They tried to stop him. I thought that day that someone would definitely come out today, not to do this. But after a while, the house started catching fire. But some friends came out who made a way and got my parents, my youngest father, my daughters, my wife, us out of the back road safely. I am very grateful to all of them. Everything was destroyed, but nothing.

This should be taken as an unfortunate incident. In the evening, when my mother told me to cry, I was upset. I cried for a moment. Because it wasn’t my home. My parents had built a small one-storey house in the year 2040. The house in which our childhood was spent, where my daughters were born, a creation of my parents, which we built by adding a small room, was destroyed. I also felt bad about why my family members had to go through what they had to go through because of me. Again, my daughter’s mother reminded me that we are safe, but this is how we should remember what is happening to the families of the youths who have been killed. The other thing I was satisfied with is that I am convinced that you are the friends who have come into the movement of Real Genji.

None of you want that. Public Property, Private Property, It’s not your intention to demolish it. There are a lot of bad intentions in it. Time will tell. Tomorrow there will be an investigation and no investigation. Time will tell, but I’m pretty sure. You are running the movement with a desire for big change. I’m sure you’re wise and take it forward accordingly.

What you are saying now is what we are also saying. Three old leaders should be removed. They don’t work. Recently, I fought with my party president that you should not be the Prime Minister of the country, but I could not get the mark. Now, when Oli’s government is being formed, I will not become a minister, I will support your government, the government should work. I also worked in the system and tried to change some things in the beginning because change is needed so quickly, people are so angry. We don’t have to work. But one bad thing after another. Kulman Ghising was removed from the post. In all the works, let us not protect the people who do bad things by calling Congress and UML, those who have made a mistake should be punished. Let’s not divide the university. The law of the authority does not obstruct the parliament. If something is hot, something or the other, then be satisfied.

We couldn’t get what we were told to do and I left that mechanism to see if we could sit outside and increase the pressure, but I couldn’t. What I have to tell you is that we are fighting within what you are thinking. It is not convincing that the party is fighting within the structure of the parliament. I have never surrendered.

But we didn’t get it. I’m not trying to ask for excuses. A lot of things would have changed if we hadn’t reached our front. If I had won the party’s leader, or if we had removed the leaders or if we had done a better job for the government, a lot would have changed in these one-and-a-half years. We couldn’t. It’s our weakness. I’m going to learn from this again. It’s about learning. As a member of my party, the Nepali Congress, what I should learn from this is that I am going to change the Nepali Congress party.

I know it’s going to take time, but it’s a part of changing it and once again building a party that people like you.

But I have a request for you, today there is a vacuum like situation in the country. I am reading and listening to what you have to say. First of all, the next government should investigate the mass killings that took place on September 23 and all those involved in it should be punished. On the 24th, your Peace Full Protest was the one who caused the ruckus that caused the disaster.

See, in the history of Nepal, when there have been so many movements, there has never been a dissection of this level. There is nothing left in the courtroom. It should also be investigated who did it and why. And whoever is guilty of this should also be punished. Secondly, you have said that every single corruption scandal committed by all those who have held office after 2046 BS should be investigated. It has to happen. There should be an investigation into the assets of every leader, every person holding a responsibility. Because we are also fed up with it. I have not been poisoned. I am also a member of parliament and a minister. The government should immediately enact a law and set up a powerful commission and investigate all the allegations that have been made about me, my family, my income, my business, etc. Milk should be water. Whoever has done wrong must be punished. His property should also be nationalized by making laws. But it should not be generalized and put everyone in the same sun. Because tomorrow we have to run the country. So what you have raised is quite justified. It is perfectly fine to structure it and create a situation where those who have done wrong will be punished.

Thirdly, it is right to form the government according to your feelings regarding how to move forward. And let that government do these things, that’s the way to go. But I have a request. The movement of 2062-63 led to the formation of a new constitution. The path to making this constitution was not easy. We’ve been through a lot in the meantime. We had a civil war. You went through a big ethnic war. This constitution is made by finding a balance between the demands of indigenous nationalities, Dalits, Madhesis, Muslims, minorities in Nepal. No one is speaking now.

But if you take away your rights, then everyone will have to speak up again. No one can handle us, so you have to take care of the continuity of the situation. Whatever we want to talk about, it has to be enshrined in the Constitution somewhere. Because what I have seen is that democracy has come to us. After some time, I couldn’t deliver. There was a movement. It went again. Democracy was snatched away for a long time. Look at the pain of democracy being taken away after some time, when we are being banned from social media one day, when our society does not accept it, then who accepts that our civil rights have been snatched away? It doesn’t. And then there’s another movement. That’s why our 20th, 30th year is the next generation.

Your generation should not be wasted on this. We must not allow this cycle to be broken. Let’s maintain this constitution from somewhere or the other and make reforms within it. We will do as you say, we will sit on the back bench, we will sit on the back bench. We are working to reform the party. We will reform the party. You change the leadership of the party, you change everything. We’re going to go there. Let’s do this for a while. But if we go beyond the constitution and start looking for solutions, it may be for a while, but after some time, the solution will not be possible again. It should not be that what you have done about such a big change is not the tragedy of it. It may not be that there was a defeating victory like the Victory of Pirik, but later there was only repentance. What happened, what happened, there has been such a big distraction.

We have to take care of it, we have to rebuild it. Reconstruction has to be done. We need everyone’s support. The wrongdoer should also be punished. All the rest of the rest should be taken away. You’ll definitely pay attention to how to do it. You’re wise. I have great faith in you. Only your generation can do it. Therefore, it is working with the belief that you should take care of the remaining time by bidding farewell to the previous generation and do it as soon as possible.

Now that you have come forward on your own, it’s fine, but don’t let it spoil you. It has to be managed. It has to be taken care of. Think and think patiently and patiently. Nepal is also geopolitically very delicate. It’s also very delicate to accommodate all the races within us. In the midst of all this, we have to find a balance. So I want to appeal to you once again. You young friends, I salute your heart. You’ve fought so many battles. I apologize once again for all the mistakes that have been made in the meantime. I promise to improve, we will make amends. But I also believe that you will use your wisdom properly in the context of handling this current situation, and I request all of you to do so,

Hello, Jai Nepal.
