Kathmandu. As of 8 p.m. on Thursday, 1,567 inmates and detainees had escaped from prisons and police stations across the country.

Central Spokesperson of Nepal Police, Deputy Inspector General Binod Ghimire said that the arrested ones have been kept in their respective prisons and detention cells. Of them, 1,509 were inmates and 58 detainees. Spokesperson Ghimire said that 12,533 prisoners are still absconding. He said that the search for 795 detainees is still going on as they are absconding.

The Nepal Police Headquarters on Thursday made a public appeal to the absconding people to come in contact with the concerned prisons and police offices. All of them escaped after arson and vandalism.
