Lalitpur. Locals of Bhaisepati-based Lalitpur Metropolitan City-25 have reinstated the police division that was burnt during the ‘Genji’ movement. During the agitation led by ‘Jenji’ on September 9 and 24, the protesters set fire to the Police Sector, Bungmati Bhaisepati, which destroyed all the furniture there.
A team led by Division Police In-charge Shashidhar Sharma had entered the ward late on Thursday with essential supplies. The agitators had torched two four-wheelers, some motorcycles and office equipment.
The team was welcomed by Daulat Kumar Khatri of Ward No. 25, Sagar Tuladhar of Ward No. 22 and Rabindra Maharjan.
An 11-member committee has been formed under the convenorship of local Suman Mahat to repair the burnt building and bring it back into use.
The committee has pledged to bring the division into full operation by collecting voluntary donation, donation and support from various organizations at the local level. More than 50 locals are involved in cleaning the ward today. The committee has been working to repair the windows and doors, paint it, arrange the lights and water and other logistics.
According to Sharma, more than four lakh rupees have been collected from the locals so far. As soon as the market returns to normalcy, the materials will be purchased from the market and the division will be fully operationalized. “Nepal Police, which is deputed for public security like in the past, will continue to work in the days to come. According to him, preparations have been made by the local level to arrange vehicles for some time as all the vehicles used for patrolling have been burnt.
Lalitpur metropolis-25 chair Daulat Kumar Khatri, ward-22 chair Sagar Tuladhar, ward-21 Rabindra Maharjan and ward-18 Damodar Khadka handed over Rs 25,000 each.
Ward Chief Sharma said that the support, cooperation and love of the ward chairperson and locals was important and expressed the belief that peace and security could be maintained with the support of police and locals.
Committee member and social worker Devendra Kumar Gautam said security has increased at local level with the escape of all the prison inmates and inmates and detainees and hence called for the establishment of a police post at the earliest. The ward is led by 43 police personnel, eight traffic police and eight others from the police post of Farsidole.
