Kathmandu. The Ministry of Health and Population has been completely destroyed due to a fire during the Genji protests. The ministry said it was looking for a place to manage itself on a temporary basis.
Furniture, important papers, files, computers and vehicles on the premises of the ministry have been reduced to ashes. The absence of the building has directly affected the functioning of the ministry. At present, the Ministry is collecting details of the loss and collecting the compensation.
Ministry’s Secretary Dr Bikash Devkota said that the Ministry has been concentrating on treatment of the injured and has been playing a coordinating role so far, providing necessary medical supplies to the hospital and collecting information about the injured during the demonstration.
“All the rooms and belongings of the building have been gutted,” he said. There is nothing left. It was not possible to transfer the remaining goods. ’
Secretary Devkota said that the government has planned to start partial work from tomorrow from the building of the Nepal Health Research Council (NHRC) which is behind the ministry. Despite minor vandalism, the building was saved from burning. According to him, the ministry will be shifted to Singha Durbar if it gets space there.
The country has already got Sushila Karki as the Prime Minister of the interim government. Preparations are underway to expand the cabinet. After the appointment of the Health Minister, the Ministry does not even have space for his office. Secretary Devkota said that a room has been prepared in the NHRC where the minister can be accommodated. “We, the employees, will work in a hall. We have prepared a room for the minister. For now, we are taking initiatives to work there and get a place inside Singha Durbar,” he said.
The Health Emergency and Disaster Management Unit based in the Ministry premises is currently operating from a building of Bir Hospital. “Print the documents in the email and work as needed. I am thinking of doing more work after following his guidance after the new leadership is in place,” Dr Devkota said.
