“We will immediately pay a small amount of damage caused by the Genji protests,” says CEO of an insurance company

Kathmandu. KATHMANDU: The Nepal Insurance Authority (NEA) held discussion with chief executive officers of non-life insurance companies and reinsurance companies at the central office of the NEA at Kupandole today.

During the discussions, CEOs of non-life insurance companies said that the insurer can immediately pay a small claim amount for the insurance claims for physical and other damages sustained during the agitation and the reinsurer should provide the amount in advance as per the rules in case of insurance claim payment above that and the reinsurer should facilitate in liquidity management.

They were of the view that the survey report could not be obtained due to special circumstances regarding the payment of the insurance claim for the completely damaged physical properties during the agitation and it would be difficult to get recommendation as the ward office and police offices were damaged.

Similarly, CEOs of reinsurance companies said that the data should be credible while proposing for reinsurance by the insurer and that the reinsurers are ready to provide support in terms of claim payment.

On the occasion, Executive Director of Nepal Insurance Authority Sushil Dev Subedi requested the chief executive officers of the Insurance and Re-insurer to give their suggestions within three days as per the provision in the Insurance Regulations-2081 BS to make the payment of insurance claim for the loss of insurance due to the present non-natural disaster simple and easy.

On the occasion, Executive Director Subedi directed the insurers to work in such a way that the general public would be assured that they would get the insurance claim after the insurance and to collect data related to insurance claims and to appoint a focal person to facilitate in the payment of claims.

Executive Director Subedi also directed the insurers to inform the insured as soon as possible about the damage caused to the physical and other properties insured by them and take initiatives to forward the claim payment process.

The program was also attended by Nirmal Adhikari, Director of Nepal Insurance Authority, Shambha Raj Lamichhane, Chief Executive Officers of non-life insurance companies and reinsurance companies.

Similarly, the Nepal Insurance Authority (NEA) today held discussion with Insurance Surveyors Association of Nepal regarding the role of insurance surveyor in making insurance claim payment prompt during the current non-natural disaster.
