Kathmandu. Though the monsoon should have exited normally in the next 15 days on an average, it has now started becoming active. The Meteorological Forecasting Division under the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology said the monsoon low pressure trough is present around the normal places as well as there is influence of wind carrying water vapor from the Arabian Sea and the Bay of Bengal.

Meteorologist at the Division, Rojan Lamichhane, said the monsoon will become active during the outgoing season. “Normally, monsoon leaves on October 2. There are only 15 days left for the monsoon to exit and sometimes it may be extended. It is not possible to say whether or not monsoon will exit on the normal date this year.

According to Lamichhane, the weather will be generally cloudy throughout the country today as well. According to Meteorological Forecasting Division, there are chances of moderate rain in some places of the hilly region including Bagmati and Lumbini provinces and at a few places of the rest of the hilly regions.

There are chances of heavy rain at one or two places of the hilly region of Koshi, Bagmati and Karnali provinces and at one or two places of Tarai region of Lumbini province.

At the same time, the water level in some rivers of the country is likely to increase. Department’s Flood Expert Binod Parajuli said the water level of small rivers flowing through Dolakha, Sindhupalchowk, Palpa, Rupandehi, Nawalparasi (east), Nawalparasi (west), Doti, Kailali and surrounding districts will increase significantly and there is a high risk of medium risk of flash floods.

“Some small rivers flowing through Ilam, Jhapa, Morang, Kathmandu, Lalitpur, Bhaktapur, Bara, Parsa, Chitwan, Kaski, Tanahun, Syangja, Myagdi, Baglung, Parbat, Gulmi, Arghakhanchi, Banke, Bardiya, Dang, Surkhet, Dailekh, Kanchanpur, Dadeldhura, Baitadi, Darchula and surrounding districts are likely to witness moderate risk of flash floods,” he said. ’
