Kathmandu. President Ram Chandra Poudel has called on one and all to play a role in holding the elections on the slated date.
In his address to a special ceremony organised at the Office of the President, Shital Niwas, on the occasion of the Constitution Day, 2082 today, the Prime Minister said that the people’s consensus has steered the country out of crisis as there was no way to form the Council of Ministers from the House of Representatives. Stating that political outlet has been provided for the time being to hold the House of Representatives election within six months in view of the difficult situation that has emerged in the country, President Poudel urged all sides concerned to extend support to the move in favour of giving a political outlet to the House of Representatives by holding the House of Representatives election on the stipulated timeframe.
He also called on all political parties, bodies involved in the administration and management of the country, intellectual community and citizens to shun differences and conflicts and work without prejudice for the success of the elections through coordination and cooperation.
President Poudel said, “This constitution has given sovereignty and freedom to the Nepali people. People belonging to all castes, religions and communities have been given equal rights. And, it has given us an opportunity to progress through coordination. We have become the strongest and most sovereign country in the history of constitutional development. This is an epochal achievement that we have achieved. So let’s all protect it. ’
Stating that he was confident that democracy would be strengthened with the participation of every generation, President Poudel recalled that he had joined politics for democracy in 2017 BS as a young age of 17. “The situation has brought me to a position where I could handle the political difficulties and vacuum that arose after September 24,” he said. We have managed this difficult situation due to everyone’s understanding, coordination and cooperation. ’
On the occasion of Constitution Day, President Poudel urged one and all to make resolutions on the occasion of Constitution Day that we will be committed to democracy, moving ahead keeping citizens at the centre, committed to good governance and will bound politics, state and government as per the border of morality, integrity and norms. “I would like to extend my best wishes to the political parties, government, state bodies and the general public to work together to make our constitution more vibrant, just and future-oriented, and to fulfill the dreams and dreams of Nepali citizens during the movement for change,” he said. And, I also seek continued cooperation and goodwill from all our friendly nations in this difficult situation. ’
Stating that all had collectively worked together as per the aspiration of democracy and constitution, the dream of change of the new generation and the people’s aspirations, President Poudel said the country has once again entered a new path of change with a new dream. “I firmly believe that the new people’s mandate will chart the way forward by further institutionalizing democracy,” he said. The interim government will reconstruct the national damage and hold elections within six months and hand over power to the people’s representative bodies. This is the main task of all Nepalis at present. ’
Stating that the country has suffered unimaginable human and material loss in the two-day protest, President Poudel said, “As a guardian of children, I can feel the pain of the parents of those youths who lost their lives. I also estimate the irreparable loss of life and property of the nation. As the guardian of the nation, I can feel the loss of these young people. Today, on the occasion of Constitution Day, I would like to remember the awareness and goodwill of all those youths who came out on the streets on September 23 in order to bring stability to the country and bright future of the nation. ’
Stating that our culture, nature and geographical diversity have unlimited potentials in itself, President Poudel said that the life standard of ordinary Nepalis could be changed if these potentials were utilized judiciously. “Our constitution always provides guidance for this. Everyone knows that our constitution has set the goal of socialism-oriented economy based on democracy. Maintaining equal access to state services and opportunities, ensuring social security and accelerating inclusive development is the main need of the hour for this goal. ’
President Poudel said that an equitable and prosperous Nepal as envisioned by the constitution was possible only if good governance, an end to anomalies, employment generation, environmental sustainability and social justice were given priority.
Present on the occasion were Vice President Ram Sahaya Prasad Yadav, Prime Minister Sushila Karki, Chief Justice Prakash Man Singh Raut, Speaker Devraj Ghimire, National Assembly Chair Narayan Prasad Dahal, former Presidents Dr Ram Baran Yadav and Bidya Devi Bhandari, former Prime Ministers Pushpa Kamal Dahal, Jhalanath Khanal, Madhav Kumar Nepal and Baburam Bhattarai and representatives of the Genji generation.
Likewise, chiefs and representatives of constitutional bodies, high-ranking officials, chiefs of security bodies, chiefs and representatives of Nepal-based diplomatic missions and distinguished persons from different walks of life were present in the meeting.
