Bagmati. The Transport Management Office, Hetauda, which was destroyed in the arson of ‘Genji’ demonstrations, is preparing to operate the service by keeping the goods saved from the arson. The ground floor and top floor of the office were completely gutted in the fire.
Prabin Shrestha, chief of the office, said that preparations are being made to resume the office service immediately by placing the safe tables and chairs in the safe rooms.
“Around 70,000 files of service recipients and required documents have been gutted in the fire,” Shrestha said, adding, “Some rooms on the first floor including my office are almost safe. ’
The fire has destroyed electricity, internet and drinking water in the office. Shrestha said, “The works of connecting electricity and internet services are going on immediately and we will start the works like registration, renewal and road permit after the completion of these works.” He said that necessary discussions are underway with the ministry, departments and employees regarding how to proceed with the work as the files and important documents of the service recipients have been burnt.
Shrestha said that the service will resume soon as the necessary documents are being printed and electronic goods are being purchased immediately. He said preliminary estimates were that the fire caused about Rs 12 million worth of damage to the office during the Genji protests. According to the police, 24 computers, 38 printers and two laptops and 63 other furniture of the office were gutted in the fire.
Likewise, five thousand embush plates kept in the storage room of the office were also destroyed in the fire, while two motorcycles and a scooter were burnt to ashes, according to the office.
