Birgunj metropolis allocates Rs 300 million for reconstruction

Birgunj. Birgunj Metropolitan City has focused the budget allocated for the fiscal year 2082/83 on reconstruction. KMC has decided to spend budget for the reconstruction of structures damaged and vandalism that took place during the ‘Jenji’ demonstration on September 7 and 24.

The 28th special session of the municipal assembly held here today unanimously endorsed the proposal related to reconstruction. Buildings and vehicles were vandalized and looted during the demonstrations by the Genji group.

Presenting the revised budget, Mayor of Birgunj Metropolitan City Rajesh Man Singh said that the priorities of the budget had to be changed. The 17th municipal council of the metropolis had earlier allocated a budget of Rs 3.22 billion for the fiscal year 2082÷83.

The special session also decided to transfer the budget allocated for municipal-level capital plans, social development programmes and ward-level projects for reconstruction. After the amendment, around Rs 30 crore will be available for reconstruction.

The budget has been allocated for the construction of administrative building, purchase of vehicles, machinery equipment, laptop, computer, printer and furniture, repair of office buildings, vehicle rental, electric lamps and other necessary materials.

The special convention also passed a proposal to provide Rs 500,000 to the family of Asahab Alam of Birgunj Metropolitan City-12, who was killed in police firing during a demonstration in Kathmandu.
