Kathmandu. Minister for Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation, Physical Infrastructure and Transport and Urban Development Minister Kulman Ghising and Indian Ambassador to Nepal Nabin Srivastava held a meeting at the latter’s residence in Baluwatar today.

During the meeting held at the Ministry of Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation at Singha Durbar, Indian Ambassador Srivastava congratulated the newly-appointed minister and wished him a successful term.

During the meeting, matters relating to Nepal-India cooperation in energy, hydropower and irrigation sectors and the progress of the projects under construction with Indian assistance were discussed.

Discussions were held on the meeting of bilateral mechanisms of energy and water resources sector, supply of water to Nepal through Mahakali Irrigation Project (third phase), progress of Rahughat hydroelectricity project being constructed with Indian assistance, construction of 400 KV transmission line in Inaruwa-Purniya and New Lamki-Bareilly 400 KV transmission line and approval for export of additional electricity from Nepal to India, among others.

Minister Ghising said that the government has requested the government to give permission for the export of additional electricity as the domestic power consumption will decrease if the industries close down during Dashain and Tihar.

Currently, Nepal has got permission to export 1165 MW of electricity to India including Bangladesh. A proposal has been submitted to India for the export of 138 MW of additional four projects.

During the meeting, it was shared that study of Inaruwa-Purniya and New Lamki-Bareilly 400 KV inter-country transmission line has been completed on the Indian side. Ambassador Srivastava also conveyed that India was ready to extend all necessary support for the reconstruction of structures damaged by the Zenji agitation, if required.
