Myagdi. People from Bagar and Jeltung villages of Dhawalagiri rural municipality-4 in Myagdi district have been compelled to travel risky journeys for the past two months.
The people have been compelled to travel with the help of ladders and ropes for the past two months after a landslide swept away the road at the Lapkis rivulet along the Jeltung-Naura road section, which is used to travel from the village to the ward office, rural municipality and district headquarters.
Jaglal Harmel, a teacher at the local Kailash Basic School, informed that the landslide started taking place since mid-June and now around eight meters of the road has been completely washed away. According to him, the locals have been taking risky journeys in commuting after the floods and landslides triggered by the steep rivulet swept away the road. Normal life has become difficult after the landslide swept away the road leading to the movement of people every day.
Hari Prasad Tilija, a local leader who is also a ward member of Dhawalagiri rural municipality-4, said that it has been difficult to transport food items to the village from the market. “We have been crossing the landslide-hit area almost every day by carrying out repairs and risking it, it is difficult for children, women and senior citizens to cross the river,” he said. ’’
There are around 70 households in Jeltung and Bagar villages. Even those returning to the village from urban areas to celebrate festivals have become risky as the road to reach the village has become risky. The road covered by the circuitous Dhaulagiri trekking route has been blocked due to landslide which has also put the tourists in trouble.
Tourists coming for mountaineering and Dhaulagiri trekking for autumn have started going to the base camp via Marfa as an alternative to this route.
