Myagdi. A cloth bank has been established at Beni municipality-7 in Myagdi district. The cloth bank has been established with the objective of collecting unused clothes at home and providing them free of cost to the poor and poor people who cannot afford to buy them.
Bishwas Shrestha, ward member of Beni Municipality-7, said that the bank will provide clothes to poor and extremely poor families, those affected by natural disaster and those found abandoned during the festival season like Dashain, Tihar.
Representatives of Lions and Leo Club of Benny Lovelihl went door-to-door in Beni on Monday to collect clothes required for the bank and provided them to the ward office. Om Prakash Sharma, president of Lions Club of Benny Lovelihil, said that clothes fit in two Bolero vehicles were collected on the first day.
“During the door-to-door visit, the locals of the market have also provided new clothes that are not in use,” he said, adding, “We will collect additional clothes and distribute them in a ÷day or two to ensure that the poor do not suffer during the festival.” ’
Those who need it can come to the ward office and pick up clothes of their choice. The details of the person taken to the ward are kept confidential. According to the ward office, clothes will be provided to the helpless, disabled and financially poor people within Myagdi district and outside the district if needed.
The people of the market have provided clean and usable clothes, whether used or unused. The aim of setting up a cloth bank is also to ensure that people from poor communities do not have to suffer due to lack of warm clothes as winter season approaches.
