Import of goods resumes from Tatopani-Kodari highway

Sindhupalchowk. The Tatopani-Kodari highway, which has been obstructed due to landslides for the past one month, has been reopened. With the opening of the highway, containers carrying goods have started entering Nepal from Monday at Tatopani transit point, the main trade point with China.

The Kodari road section has come into operation after the removal of landslides at four places including the Bhotekoshi rural municipality-2. Around 500 metres of road has collapsed at different places of Bhotekoshi rural municipality along the Araniko Highway. A 250-metre road subsidence occurred at Ikow, 110 metres at Daklang, 100 metres at Panthali, 25 metres at Larche and 10 metres at Ghattekhola.

Rajendra Prasad Chudal, chief customs officer at the Tatopani Customs Office, said that some containers that had been stranded for more than a month entered Nepal till Tuesday evening. According to him, the goods including Dashain target have arrived and the load work is going on even today.

Minister for Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation, Physical Infrastructure and Transport and Urban Development Minister Kulman Ghising, Ministry Secretary Keshav Sharma, Director General of Department of Roads Bijaya Jaishi, among other officials had reached the site on Monday.
