Kathmandu. KATHMANDU: The Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI) has urged businesses and private property to be protected from attack in the coming days.
A meeting led by FNCCI President Chandra Prasad Dhakal with Minister for Industry, Commerce and Law Anil Kumar Sinha at the Ministry of Industry on Thursday made the request.
Stating that many public properties as well as industries, establishments, offices and residences of industrialists were vandalized and torched during the youth movement, the FNCCI stressed the need of ensuring such guarantee to boost the morale of the general public and industrialists.
On the occasion, FNCCI President Chandra Prasad Dhakal drew the attention of the Minister to ensure that there would be no attack on business and personal property in the coming days and to take stern action against the guilty. According to him, the attacks and vandalism during the agitation have caused a loss of around Rs 80 billion to the industries and enterprises across the country.
“The FNJ is ready to coordinate and collaborate with the government to end the confusion and maintain good governance for the prosperity of the country,” he said. The private sector, which accounts for 81 per cent of the country’s economy and 86 per cent of employment, needs to be ensured and uninterrupted. Dhakal said.
Minister for Industry, Commerce and Supplies and Law Anil Kumar Sinha said that the goodwill shown by the private sector despite the huge loss was positive. The incumbent government was serious about the security of the general public and business although the incumbent government was formed in different circumstances, he said. Minister Sinha said that the support of the private sector is essential for the revival and improvement of the country’s industries.
FNCCI senior vice-president Anjan Shrestha viewed that change was felt towards the private sector as the private sector was attacked in course of every movement. He also said that the reconstruction should be made possible by the use of indigenous materials. Shrestha suggested that the government should urge the United Nations to stop the decision to upgrade Nepal from the LDC status in November 2026.
