Sankhuwasabha Rice has not yet reached the Hatiyagola food depot at Bhotkhola rural municipality in the northern part of the district. Consumers have been facing problems as there is no supply of food items to the food depot in Hatiagolla.
The Food Management and Trading Company Limited has not been able to send subsidized rice even after the Dashain festival. Transportation of rice has been disrupted at Makalu rural municipality-2 and Bhotkhola rural municipality-4 Barun along the Khandbari-Kimathanka road section along the North-South Koshi Highway. The landslide on May 20 swept away Bhotkhola-4 Barun along the Khandbari-Kimathanka road section.
Chairperson of Bhotkhola rural municipality, Wangchhader Bhote, said that food supply has not been possible in Bhotkhola before Dashain as the landslide has disrupted the Khandbari-Kimathanka road section. Rice has not been supplied to the food depot at Hatiagola for the past one year.
Only potato, millet and buckwheat are produced in the remote northern region of Bhotkhela. According to the locals, the food will last only for three months. Most of the locals here depend on the Chinese bordering markets of Changa and Dendang for daily necessities including foodstuffs.
A quota of one thousand five quintals has been fixed in the district headquarters Khandbari and one hundred and five quintals in the northern part of Bhotkhola. While a fair price shop has been established in the district headquarters Khandbari, there is a shortage of rice in Bhotkhola.
