Kathmandu. Minister for Communications and Information Technology, Jagadish Kharel, has pledged to work for effective implementation of the Right to Information (RTI). Receiving a memorandum submitted by the National Right to Information Federation (RTI) to the Ministry today, he said that the use of the Right to Information (RTI) could be done to reduce corruption.
He expressed commitment that discussions on the issue of Right to Information would be held after Dashain by holding all the stakeholders. The FNJ has demanded that the current office-bearers of the National Information Commission (NIC) should be reviewed and reconstituted to ensure responsible and competent leadership in promoting the right to information.
Federation President Umeed Bagchand said that the process of providing information should be simplified and a provision should be implemented to provide information to the citizens at easy, fast and minimum cost.
The memorandum signed by FNJ President Bagchand and General Secretary Purna Prasad Mishra has demanded making the monitoring mechanism at the Ministry effective to strictly adhere to transparency and accountability, the public bodies should come up with concrete action plan to control corruption and bring good governance programmes to win the trust of Genji.
Stating that the activities of the Vigilance Centre and the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) have not brought concrete results in the fight against corruption, the FNJ has stressed on the need of making policy and legal arrangements for the aware citizens to seek and receive information in an easy manner by promoting the right to information.
