Kathmandu. KATHMANDU: Chairman of the Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI), Chandra Prasad Dhakal, has urged the government to further upgrade and systematize the Korola located at the Nepal-China border in Mustang district.
He urged the leaders of the Gandaki Province Committee of FNCCI and the District Chambers of Commerce and Industry under the FNCCI after inspecting the transit point today. “Once the Kaligandaki Corridor is completed, this transit point will be the shortest route linking Nepal, China and India”, he added. It can be used for the promotion of trilateral trade, tourism and economic activities. The Government of Nepal needs to pay attention to this. ”
Dhakal also urged the authorities to develop the necessary infrastructures, make the customs office systematic and easy, and start the immigration service at the earliest as the infrastructure required for the border point was insufficient on the Nepali side.
“We got information that Rs 1.4 billion in revenue has been collected from the customs office that was established just 12 days ago,” he said. This also necessitates more systematic operation of this checkpoint. It is clear that Nepal will benefit greatly from this if we can arrange the necessary infrastructures and personnel for customs and immigration. ”
He said that it takes two days to reach Rasuwa of Nepal from Lhasa of China and it would be a short route for Chinese tourists to reach Nepal and it would be short to reach Mansarovar.
Dhakal suggested that it would be easier for the government to construct government offices, accommodation and other management around the Korola border point.
According to Dhakal, around 7 lakh domestic and foreign tourists visited Mustang last year alone.
He also urged the government to immediately reconsider the amount of US $ 500 provided to foreign tourists to enter Upper Mustang, saying it was impractical.
Dhakal said that the Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI) has been urging the government and bodies concerned to take necessary initiatives for the early completion of the Kaligandaki Corridor and operation of Korala border point in a systematic and sustainable way.
