Myagdi. A route has been prepared to reach the world’s seventh highest Mt Dhaulagiri (8,167 metres). Dhaulagiri is located in Dhaulagiri Rural Municipality-4 of Myagdi district. Four Sherpas who reached the mountain with an expedition team this autumn have reached the summit by making a ‘route’.
Founder of Seven Summit Treks Mingma Sherpa said that a team of four Sherpas made a rope fixing on Saturday after making a path from the base camp to the top of Dhaulagiri.
“A joint team of Sherpas from the fourteenth summit expedition and the seven-peak trekking expedition have opened the route up to the top of Dhaulagiri”, he said, adding that this has made Mt Dhawalagiri accessible to all the mountaineers in this season. ’
A team comprising Tashi Sherpa and Lakpa Temba Sherpa from Makalu Rural Municipality-1 of Sankhuwasabha, Purwa Kusang Sherpa and Pasang Norbu Sherpa from Makalu Rural Municipality-2 became the first team to climb Dhaulagiri in the current autumn.
After a team of Sherpas pull ropes through the snow to prepare a path, the climbers reach the peak with their help. Sherpas have said that the expedition team will reach Dhaulagiri in a day or two if the weather is favourable and other problems are not favourable.
According to the Department of Tourism, seven women and 17 men of three groups have taken permission to climb Dhaulagiri in Sharadayam. A sum of Rs 50.71 lakh has been collected from those who have taken permission.
A team of climbers, Sherpas, guides and helpers have already reached the base camp. This time, the expedition team has reached the base camp from Marfa of Mustang to Yakkharka. The trekking route via Mudibagar of Dhawalagiri Rural Municipality is bad, winding and far-flung.
Last spring, revenue of Rs 36,91,260 was collected from 15 people of two groups for taking permission for mountaineering. In autumn 2024, a group of 14 male climbers got permission to climb the mountain, but five were killed in an avalanche in Russia.
The ever-changing weather is the challenge of climbing Dhawalagiri. Compared to other mountains, Dhaulagiri is considered risky and adventurous. On May 13, 1960, Austrian Kurt Dimberger climbed Mt Dhaulagiri for the first time. Along with Dimberger, Peter Diener, Anst Fourer, Albin Selbert, Nima Dorge and Nawang Dorge had climbed Dhaulagiri for the first time.
