New Delhi. The Taj Mahal has become India’s most visited tourist destination.
In the financial year 2024-25, the monument attracted 69 lakh visitors, according to the latest India Tourism Data Compendium released by the Union Ministry of Tourism. Among them, 6.6 million are domestic tourists and around 6.45 lakh are foreigners.
Built in the seventeenth century, this ivory-like white marble mausoleum was built by Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan in memory of his beloved wife Mumtaz Mahal. The tomb of Emperor Shah Jahan is also located in this magnificent work.
According to the Ministry of Tourism, the Taj Mahal has been India’s highest-revenue earner and most visited monument for more than a decade.
The Taj Mahal attracts millions of visitors every year due to its historical, cultural and architectural significance.
