ADB approves $190 million loan for India’s metro rail project

agency. The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has approved a $190 million loan for the Indore Metro Rail Project in India.

The project consists of 8.5 million units including seven stations connecting Indore to the airport. A 62-km underground metro line was constructed.

The metro line is expected to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by an estimated 12,414 tonnes of carbon dioxide annually and improve air quality in India.

The initiative includes efforts including multimodal integration with services, improving access to educational institutions and markets.

A multi-dimensional integration study will also be conducted to optimize the synergy between metro, airport, railway and bus systems.

The project is expected to be operational by January 2030 and will be operated by Madhya Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation Limited.
