Kathmandu. Kathmandu: Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) has urged the municipality denizens to remain alert as dengue is still spreading through mosquito bites.
The metropolis has clarified that works are being carried out in full swing to search the habitat of mosquitoes and destroy the larvae as the dengue epidemic is still prevalent.
KMC’s focal person Rishi Prasad Bhusal said the locals and health workers and women volunteers were involved in destroying mosquitoes and larvae at all wards and community levels.
According to him, maximum efforts are being made to reduce and control the death rate of the municipality denizens in view of the fluctuations in the infection rate of the past years.
For the first time in the KMC, a woman was found infected in Chamati area in 2075 BS. According to the KMC, the disease is usually seen in the rainy season and its infection rate is mostly seen in mid-August, September and October months.
The Aedes mosquito, which transmits dengue, lives in fresh, frozen water. The dengue problem has been seen in Nepal since 2061 BS. In 2022, 2,973 people were infected with dengue in the KMC. Likewise, 643 people were infected with dengue in 2023, 2,084 in 2024 and 248 from January this year till now.
One and all have been urged to stay safe from dengue infection as there are potholes on the roads and pavements, pots kept in vegetable gardens, pots kept in vegetable gardens, tires and roofs as mosquito habitats.
