Request not to travel to five provinces unless absolutely necessary

KATHMANDU: The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA) has urged all not to travel to Koshi, Madhesh, Bagmati, Gandaki and Lumbini provinces except in most emergency cases.

CAAN Spokesperson Shanti Mahat said that the NRA has requested the passengers not to travel to the railway from October 1 to Monday, October 2.

He said that the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology has issued a warning of heavy rainfall in various districts of five provinces for four days.

The Authority has urged one and all to adopt special alertness as water level in Bagmati, Kamala and Koshi rivers in the mentioned five provinces is expected to reach near the danger level.

According to the Meteorological Forecasting Division, there are high chances of sudden floods in the rivers that flow through Kathmandu Valley, Kavrepalanchowk, Sindhupalchowk, Rasuwa, Makwanpur, Chitwan of Bagmati Province, Sankhuwasabha, Taplejung, Ilam, Jhapa, Morang, Bara, Parsa, Sarlahi and Rautahat of Madhes Province and surrounding districts. Therefore, the NRA has requested to take precautions, he said.

NRA has asked the concerned District Disaster Management Committee to take necessary decision regarding the restriction of vehicular operation on the basis of rainfall and road conditions, to adopt high alertness in the settlements at risk of landslides and on the banks of the rivers, to take information about the high altitude and safe places and to inform others as well. It is also requested to move to a safe place if necessary.

The NRA has called on all the three security agencies, local levels and volunteers to be on standby for the response, to keep dozers, excavators and loaders ready for immediate mobilization on risky highways and roads, and to remain in alert by being in contact with the partner organizations providing assistance in preparedness, preparedness, and response.
