Heavy rains and disaster threats halt long route vehicular movement

. KATHMANDU: The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA) has temporarily banned the movement of vehicles on long routes citing the possibility of heavy rainfall from October 1 to October 3.

According to the forecast by the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology, the risk of flood, landslide and inundation is high due to incessant rainfall in Koshi, Madhesh, Bagmati, Gandaki and Lumbini provinces during this period.TAG_OPEN_p_12

The authority has requested the passengers and drivers to strictly follow the directives set by the district administration and security bodies and not to operate all types of vehicles except the most essential ones.TAG_OPEN_p_11

Similarly, the Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) has banned the movement of public and private vehicles on long routes entering and exiting the Kathmandu Valley from October 1, 19 and 20.TAG_OPEN_p_10

Passengers and the general public have been urged to stay safe, not to travel unnecessarily and to obtain only official information through radio, television and online news for necessary information.TAG_OPEN_p_9
