Kathmandu. The Traffic Police has urged all the drivers to adopt high precaution with the increasing risk of road accidents with the incessant monsoon.

Stating that there is a possibility of heavy rain for the next three days, special precaution is necessary, said the Traffic Police has adopted high alertness in road safety and miking is being carried out at various transit points.

Kathmandu Valley Traffic Police Chief and Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Nawaraj Adhikari said that the miking service has been started urging the drivers to adopt special alertness as the road becomes slippery, visibility is low and the risk of landslide and flood is high during the rainy season.

“As per the recent weather forecast, the monsoon will remain active for three days, so there is a risk in vehicular operation at this time,” he said. So, to make drivers aware, we have started miking at major entry points and busy places in the valley. ’

Traffic police personnel have been mobilized especially at Nagdhunga, Sanga, Thankot, Balaju, Satdobato, among other places exiting the Kathmandu Valley, and verbal information and miking have been started to the drivers since last night, said Adhikari.

According to him, the miking has been done requesting the drivers of long routes leaving Nagdhunga not to travel alone during night and rainy season, to travel in groups as far as possible and to get the technical test of the vehicles (brakes, tyres, lights, etc.) done regularly. “The risk is especially high in the hilly and landslide-prone routes including the Prithvi Highway, Siddhartha Highway, BP Highway, Araniko Highway, among others,” he said. Therefore, it is necessary to be even more cautious while going to such areas. ’

The Traffic Police has adopted precautionary measures from the beginning of the rainy season as there is a high possibility of road blockage, vehicle breakdown and accidents due to landslides, road erosion and pouring of water on the road.

The traffic police have been regularly patrolling the main roads and highways across the country, sharing information through traffic posts and keeping the traffic teams on standby for immediate information dissemination and rescue operations in case of disaster.

Traffic police have been posting weather updates, road conditions, and emergency road closures through social media platforms such as Facebook, Twitter (X) and departmental websites to provide timely information to road users.

Spokesperson of Kathmandu Traffic Police and Superintendent of Police (SP) Naresh Raj Subedi said that coordination and awareness among drivers, passengers and stakeholders is essential as the risk of road accidents will naturally increase due to increasing traffic pressure, unfavorable weather and weak physical infrastructure on the roads across the country.

“The need to ensure safe travel by putting into practice the slogan ‘Take precaution, avoid accidents’ has been felt even more strongly today,” he said. Accordingly, traffic police have been actively deployed on the roads. ’
