Kathmandu. The movement of vehicles entering and exiting the Kathmandu Valley on long routes has been closed. Vehicular movement to and from the Kathmandu Valley has been halted due to the risk of floods and landslides.

KATHMANDU: The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA) has banned the entry and exit of vehicles in the Kathmandu Valley for three days. Issuing a press release this morning, the Authority said that the highway entering and exiting the Kathmandu Valley has been completely closed in view of the increasing rainfall and the resultant floods and landslides.

“The vehicular movement of vehicles from Koshi, Madhes, Bagmati, Gandaki and Lumbini provinces and to enter and exit the Kathmandu Valley has been closed for October 1, 24 and 20 to minimize the risk of flood, landslide and inundation that may occur due to heavy rainfall and the resulting disasters,” reads the directive. NRA spokesperson Shanti Mahat said in a statement.

At present, moderate to heavy rainfall is taking place from Koshi Province in the east to Lumbini Province in the west.

The Department of Hydrology and Meteorology has forecast rainfall until the next 20 of this month. There is a possibility of heavy to very heavy rainfall in some places.

“The Chief District Officer and security bodies of the concerned districts have been requested to stop the movement of vehicles on long routes and those entering and leaving the Kathmandu Valley during the period, and to continuously monitor and monitor the same,” the authority said.
