Sankhuwasabha Floods and landslides triggered by incessant rainfall on Friday, Saturday and Sunday have caused damages in various places. The Khandbari prison building is at high risk due to the landslide.
Jailer Rajan Ghimire informed that the 30-meter outer wall of the prison collapsed due to incessant rainfall on Saturday afternoon. According to him, the outer wall of the lower part of the prison has collapsed due to the landslide and there is a risk of landslide from below.
Though the maintenance work was started on Sunday to prevent landslides, it was affected due to rainfall, he added. The Nepal Army’s Indradal Battalion based in the district headquarters Khandbari has also been affected by the landslide. Officiating Police Inspector Ram Kumar Lamichhane of District Police Office, Sankhuwasabha, informed that the wall of the 15-bed municipal hospital at Chainpur municipality-6 was at risk of collapse due to landslide.
Similarly, a house at Siddhapokhari in Chainpur-3 is at risk of landslide. He said that the house of Tenji Sherpa, made of stone and mud, is at high risk of landslide following the rainfall on Sunday afternoon. The family has been relocated.
Bhotkhola road blocked
The north-south road section leading to Bhotkhola rural municipality from district headquarters Khandbari has been obstructed due to landslides for the past one month. Vehicular movement has come to halt after a landslide occurred at Makalu rural municipality-3 along the North-South road section. With the road obstruction, the connection with Bhotkhola rural municipality has been cut off.
Likewise, the long-route Vehicular Movement has been halted at some places along the North-South Koshi road section.
Officiating police chief Lamichhane said vehicular movement has been halted on the roads outside the district and within the district due to heavy rainfall in the upper belt and the water basin in the Arun River has crossed the danger level.
