Myagdi. MYAGDI: Milk produced in Singa of Beni municipality-4 in Myagdi district is being supplied to Pokhara. The Baskuna Agriculture Cooperatives collected the milk and sold it to the Sujal Dairy Industry of Pokhara after the milk produced in the village could not be consumed in the local market.

Chairman of the cooperative, Tilak Gurung, said that the cooperative and Sujal Dairy Pvt Ltd have signed an agreement on milk production and purchase at the initiative of the ward office.

Gurung, who is also a leading farmer, said that the cooperatives have been collecting milk from farmers as cow milk is not consumed in the local market of Myagdi. “Until now, only buffalo milk was consumed in Beni and now it has been ensured that cow and buffalo milk can be sold.

Baskuna Agriculture Cooperatives has established a milk collection and cooling center at Pulchowk of Singa district. The farmers collect milk at the centre every day and after collecting more than 500 litres milk, the industry itself transports the milk. The cooperatives purchased 750 liters of milk on the first day of the festival.

At present, 20 farmers have started bringing milk to the milk collection center on a daily basis. A tanker carrying milk from Sujal Dairy Industry has now started transporting milk once in two days.

Beni municipality-4 ward chair Ana Bahadur Khadka said that arrangements have been made to export the milk produced locally to Pokhara by measuring the quality of milk through the machine and getting price based on its quality. According to him, an agreement has been made to provide the amount of milk to the farmers in 15÷15 days. “There was no situation for cow’s milk to get market, the milk produced by some communities was not being consumed in the local market.

After ensuring that cow milk got a market, there has been a wave of cow rearing in Singa. Earlier, the Shubhakamana Agriculture Cooperatives had been collecting milk from farmers in Singa and marketing it in Beni Bazaar.
