Kathmandu. The government has said that Rs 12.38 billion will be required for the reconstruction of roads damaged by recent floods and landslides.
According to the Ministry of Physical Infrastructure and Transport, Rs 10.68 billion is estimated to cost Rs 10.68 billion for the reconstruction of main highways, alternative roads, bailey bridges and permanent bridges.
Minister for Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation, Physical Infrastructure and Transport, and Minister for Urban Development, Kulman Ghising, has said that subordinate bodies have been carrying out works by giving first priority to the operation of roads damaged by floods and landslides. He said human resources along with equipment have been mobilized to resume the obstructed traffic at the earliest.
The recent floods have caused a lot of damage along the Mechi Highway. It is estimated that Rs 1.5 billion will be required for the reconstruction of the highway. Similarly, the government has estimated that Rs 3.77 billion will be required for the reconstruction of Koshi, Mid-hill, Hulaki, Araniko, Kanti, Narayanghat-Mugling and other highways.
According to Minister Ghisirang’s private secretariat, the government has estimated that Rs 4.52 billion will be required to reconstruct 17 bridges, Rs 800 million will be installed for bailey bridges and Rs 1.59 billion will be required for the repair of alternative roads.
