Kathmandu. Minister for Physical Infrastructure and Transport Kulman Ghising has urged the Department of Roads and contractors to bring into operation the lifeline road linking the districts of Bagmati, Madhesh and Koshi provinces with the federal capital Kathmandu at the earliest.
Secretary at the Ministry Keshav Sharma, Director General of the Department of Roads Bijaya Jaisi, and Minister Ghising had made the request to this effect. He also monitored the flood-damaged Chaukidanda and other areas.
A temporary diversion is being constructed on about 4 kilometers of the road damaged by the floods.
Last year’s floods had damaged the Bhakunde-Nepalthok section of the BP Highway. A temporary diversion was constructed on the road section, but this year’s flood had completely washed away about 4 kilometers of the road. The government has already awarded the contract for the construction of some sections of the road which was damaged by last year’s floods. Some sections of the contract are in the final process of being signed.
