Bhaktapur. CPN-UML General Secretary Shankar Pokhrel has said that it is not clear whether the Home Minister is trying to run the state or protect criminals.

Speaking at a programme organized by CPN-UML Bhaktapur chapter at Gundu, General Secretary Pokharel accused the Home Minister of indulging in the politics of vendetta and standing as a shield in favour of criminals.

“Is the incumbent Home Minister leading the state or protecting criminal groups?” asked Pokharel. They protect those involved in robbery and murder. How does such a person run the Home Ministry of the country? How will peace and security be maintained?”

He said that the Home Minister was working to lower the morale of the police rather than raising it. Claiming that Prime Minister Sushila Karki was against the constitution, Pokharel said the parties were ready to amend the constitution to make her the prime minister.

“We have been silent on his appointment due to the situation in the country, but he is trying to proceed in a vindictive manner,” he said.

General Secretary Pokharel said that election is the main responsibility of the incumbent government. He said that fair elections could not be held without ensuring security in the country, without boosting the morale of police and not returning the looted weapons. “The government is making a drama of the election without holding discussions with the political parties,” Pokharel said, adding, “Gyanendra had staged a similar election drama after September 18.” But it didn’t get validity. There is a danger that the elections to be held by the present government will also go down the same path. ’
