Panchthar. PANCHTHAR: Vehicular movement is to be resumed through a temporary diversion at Feme River along the Phidim-Falot road section in Panchthar district. The Infrastructure Development Office, Panchthar is carrying out the construction of diversion in Panchthar.

The road here has been obstructed after the diversion was swept away by the flood on October 1. The diversion is being constructed through 20 hum pipes in Feme River along the border of Phidim Municipality-1 and 11. Infrastructure Development Office, Panchthar engineer Mukesh Shah said that the diversion and access road construction will be completed by Monday.

The road connects Phidim Municipality Ward No. 10 to 13 and Falelung Rural Municipality Ward No. 3 to 8 to the district headquarters. Vehicles on the other side of the river have been ferrying passengers to their destinations after the road was disrupted at Feme River.

The passengers have been crossing the river after walking for about 15 minutes. The construction of diversion and access road has been going on since last Thursday. The flood that occurred on September 28 had swept away the road bridge here. A permanent diversion was constructed last May after the bridge was washed away and vehicular movement was resumed from a temporary diversion.

The permanent diversion was swept away by the floods on October 1. Although the process of connecting the bailey bridge has moved ahead here, the work has not been done due to lack of budget. The Nepal Army’s Birdal Battalion in Phidim has constructed a phadke to facilitate the movement of passengers after the diversion was washed away by the floods. Lok Bahadur Budhathoki, a local of Phidim-11, said that transportation of materials and export of local products have been difficult for the sick and disabled to cross the river.
