Mahendranagar. Kanchanpur: The District Police Office, Kanchanpur has arrested a person in possession of firecrackers worth around Rs 29 lakh.

Khadak Pal, 49, of Bhimdatta municipality-3 was arrested with firecrackers, said Superintendent of Police Khadak Khatri. According to him, a team deputed from the District Police Office raided Pal’s house acting on a special tip-off.

“Explosives were found during a search at Pal’s house”, he said, adding, “We will take remand from the court and take action as per the Explosive Substances Act.” Further investigation into the case is underway, police said. Police have stepped up surveillance at the checkpoint in view of possible smuggling of explosives from the border points as Tihar is approaching.
